We have had some excitement in our class this past week. We now have an LCD projector. We have been having so much fun with this playing learning games and even watching a video or two. If you are interested in what games we are playing, let me know and I will do up a list of websites that you can visit on your own computer at home. Most of them right now are from PBSkids.org
Here’s what’s happening in KD this week:
In Literacy I am going to give them a choice between Brown Bear (to continue with Bill Martin Jr. Eric Carle) or Elephant and Piggie Books (since I just checked out a bunch of them from the library). Both are great for teaching and reinforcing both reading and writing, and both choices have lots of activities to go along with them, so I thought I would let the class determine which they would like to do. I have a feeling it will be the Elephant and Piggie books, but they have surprised me before! Check with them tonight to see what was chosen!
We have 5 sight words on the go right now, and I think we will keep them: do, and, look, come, here. These words are in many of our guided reading books, and are going to be seen over and over, so I want them to have a solid understanding of these words.
Guided reading is going very well. The children are really beginning to understand many of the concepts we are learning. I am very proud of their work in this area.
In Math we will continue with the concept of part/part/whole with numbers 6-10.
For a special art project this week I have made some water colour paints with left over markers. I think the children will really enjoy painting with these!
On Wednesday, our class will be visiting the school book fair. If you would like please feel free to send in money for them to purchase a book. Please know this is up to your discretion, if you would rather not do this, do not feel obligated! The book fair will be up Thursday evening and Friday morning for you while you are here for parent/teacher interviews.
Thursday evening and Friday all day are parent/teacher interviews, so please note there will be no school on Friday of this week.
We will not be having Show and Share this month as March Break is coming up. We will resume Show and Share in April.
Remember Report Cards go home on Tuesday. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them up at our Parent/Teacher interview time.
March Break is March 17-21
Help a Kid Wear Shoes in Peru- Project by former bus driver Tiger
Over the past 6 years I have been visiting Peru and noticing how drastic the poverty is. Children roam the streets lacking many essential necessities that we take for granted. Approximately 11% of Peru’s children will die before they reach the age of five. Almost 20% of the children are forced to work as child laborers to help their family survive. Half the population of Peru lives below the poverty line-surviving on less than $2 per day and more than 570,000 orphans roam the streets of Peru with nowhere to go and no one to help them. These devastating facts are the main reason that I have been starting up this project once again. I have been collecting items for the children for the past year since I returned from Peru. My current goal for this trip to Peru is to provide 500 kids or more with some basic necessities such as medical supplies, soccer balls, shoes, clothes, t-shirts, pencils, and so on. I presently have all the tiems in my house prepared, but I am now collecting cash donations to raise money for the transportation and the freight cost for all the items. I am asking for your help on this project. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. I am a non-registered, non profit organization with the name “Help a Kid Wear Shoes in Peru.” You can write a cheque to “Help a Kid Wear Shoes in Peru” or you can transfer money to PayPal under the name email@example.com. If you have any questions, you can e-mail Tiger at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a great week! See you Thursday or Friday!
