Just realized I never put up a blog post for the week! Sorry for any confusion I may cause.

We are continuing to read our Mrs. Wishy-Washy stories. This week it is Wishy-Washy Day. We continue to review sight words and vowels.

In Math we are finishing up our study of numbers 6-10. We should finish those up next week.

Thursday is another School Spirit day, everyone wear their favourite team jersey!

Remember there is no school on Friday.

Here are more announcements:

Hello Parents,

Hard to believe this is the last full week of April! This year is flying by.

Pretty quick week this week, here’s what’s up:

We are beginning a study of the environment that should last until the end of the year. This will encompass planting seeds, going for nature walks, spring weather, and reading related books. I am really excited about this, I know it will be a lot of fun for all of us.

In Literacy we are sticking with our sight words said, he, she, me. We are also talking about the ending ‘ing’ and incorporating this more into our reading and writing.

In math we are making class number books to 1-4 (this week). Eventually we will have numbers up to 10. We will be looking at the various combinations of numbers to equal the given number. For example, for 4 some of us will make pages of 2+2, some pages of 1+3 and some 4+0. This is a great way to incorporate literacy and numeracy, and it is another concrete example of numbers.

You will notice no one has brought home  guided reading book this week. That is because we are going to do some extra focus in the class around de-coding words (figuring out new words), and I feel it is best for this week to go through the books each day with the children. Next week we will be sending books home again.

Here are some other notes:

Upcoming Dates

May 1 – School Spirit Day (Wear a jersey)

May 2 – Area Association Meeting (no school)

May 7 – Lockdown Practice at 9:40ish

May 12 – Home and School meeting at 6:30 p.m.

May 23 – Child Find here for fingerprinting of Kindergarten students at 9:00 a.m.

June 6 – Spring Fling

What a difference a few hours makes! Woke up to freezing rain pelting my house and winds blowing my garbage cans over, to finishing the day with sunshine. Oh well, I guess that’s PEI weather for you! Here is what is in store for the week:

In literacy we are reading the book One Duck Stuck- it’s a really fun counting book about a duck who gets stuck in the muck and the animals who help him out. It’s also a great book about friendship and helping each other out, so we’ll be having a lot of fun with some of those concepts this week.

Our sight words are “he, she, me, said” and we are reviewing vowels and lower case letters, and the suffix “ing” (we are noticing this a lot in our reading).

The book also gets us ready to talk about Earth Day, farming, and conservation. I am looking forward to this, as the weather gets nicer we will be going for nature walks around the school property, planting seeds and watching them grow. We will be able to tie in many of our science, literacy, math, and social studies outcomes into all of this- should be lots of fun!

Important things to note:
1) Our Easter Seals assembly is Tuesday morning at 8:30. Please make sure your child is at school on time!

2) Guided reading books are due back on Thursday of each week. When they do not come back on time, it effects our guided reading lessons as we cannot always complete our activities without the books.

3) Tuesday is Day 3- library day!

4) Remember there is NO SCHOOL Friday or Monday due to Easter Weekend.

Have a great week! Hope to get some more pictures up soon!

Mrs. Marshall

Good afternoon parents! Here is the week at a glance:
Finishing up dinosaurs. Lots of fun measurement activities going on with this. I will post pictures when we are all finished. Also doing some digging later in the week!

Finishing up the Elephant and Piggie books. These have been great at giving us examples of writing and reading. Saw a group of us reading them today-one of “those” moments when you realize how much they take in.

Still working on numbers 6-10, and part/part/whole. We also might do a refresher of patterns before the end of the month.

Here are more activities for the week:

Easter Seals:

The 2014 Easter Seals ambassador is Brett Robinson, a former Glen Stewart student. Brett will be here on April 15th at 8:40 a.m. We have the following fundraising activities planned:

1) Coin Collection – Staff and students are encouraged to donate spare change. Bins are in the front lobby and we have a thermometer set up indicating how much each grade level has contributed.

2) Easter Egg Jar Guess – Students are encouraged to guess how many Easter Eggs are in the jar. It will be .50 cents per guess with all money going to Easter Seals. On April 11th, we’ll be determining who the winner of the Easter Egg Jar contest is.

3) April 14thEaster Basket Raffle ticket deadline. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1/ticket.

4) We will be selling bags of popcorn on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 for $1.00.  All proceeds will go toward our Easter Seals Campaign.

Remember: April 18, 21 No School due to Easter Weekend.

Show and Share Calendars for April went home today!

Have a great week!

Hello Parents,

Who would have thought when we went home from school on Tuesday last week, we would still be out a week later! Hopefully this is the end of this craziness! I wanted to give you a bit of an update for the rest of the week:
I am hoping to finish up our investigation into dinosaurs. We have been de-railed in this by a few things, I want to use what is left of the week to finish this up as there are other ideas to move on to.

In literacy we will be reading some more Elephant and Piggie books and looking to these as an example for our reading and our writing.  We will continue to review the sight words covered so far. By the end of April we will have been introduced to all of our sight words. We will also review the consonants. I hope to introduce vowels next week.

In math we will continue to investigate numbers to 10 and how we can construct and deconstruct them. Which is fancy talk for looking at a number concretely (using 10 objects to represent 10 for instance), and finding how many ways we can arrange the objects and still have 10 (6 and 4; 5 and 5; etc).

I sent an e-mail out yesterday regarding lunch orders. In case you didn’t receive it (I think it is lost in cyberspace, because I never received it), I wanted to let those of you who have ordered lunches over the past 5 days know that those lunch orders will be carried over to this week.

Take Note:
Wednesday is inside out and backwards day: donate a loonie or a toonie for Easter Seals. In regards to Easter Seals, please note the following:
The 2014 Easter Seals ambassador is Brett Robinson, a former Glen Stewart student. Brett will be here on April 15th at 8:40 a.m. We have the following fundraising activities planned: 1) Coin Collection – Staff and students are encouraged to donate spare change. Bins are in the front lobby and we have a thermometer set up indicating how much each grade level has contributed. 2) April 2nd – Inside/Out and backwards day – Staff and Students are encourage to wear their clothes inside out and backwards on this day and donate a $1 to Easter Seals. (Please note: this date has changed from April 1st due to school picture day being moved to April 1st.) 3) Easter Egg Jar Guess – Students are encouraged to guess how many Easter Eggs are in the jar. It will be .50 cents per guess with all money going to Easter Seals. On April 11th, we’ll be determining who the winner of the Easter Egg Jar contest is. 4) April 14th – Easter Basket Raffle ticket deadline. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1/ticket.

Have a great day, and hopefully this is the last day of winter weather until December!!!!!
