September 29-October3 September 29, 2014

It’s hard to believe September is almost over and October begins on Wednesday! Time sure has flown, but we have all grown so much in the last month. On the first day of school we didn’t know where to go, when to use the washroom, what our day would be like. Now, on the next to last day of September, we have our routines down pat. We know what to do when we first get to school, we know what to do if we need to use the washroom or get a drink. We are seasoned veterans of kindergarten!

Here’s what’s happening this week:
In math we are talking about more than, less (fewer) than, and the same as. In literacy we will do letters O,P,Q,R,S. We have an alphabet poem about Kindergarten that we will learn. We will be looking at the book Changing Colours, which is about leaves changing colour in the fall.

We will continue to build with a variety of objects, use our senses to discover the world, and learn through play each day!

Important Information:

Please take a moment each day to vote for our school for the Indigo Adopt a School challenge! It only takes a few seconds and it’s free! We can win books for our school library!

Thursday will be our Teddy Bear Clinic with student nurses. Please bring a favourite doll or stuffed animal for the day!

On October 6 the Kindergarten classes will be taking a field trip to Victoria Park. More information will be coming home this week!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me!
Have a great week!

Food Allergies September 25, 2014

Hi Parents,
I wanted to send this both e-mail and the blog in order to make sure we all see it.
Just a reminder that our school is a peanut and nut free school. We do have children in kindergarten with these allergies, so please be aware of this while you are packing lunches and snacks.
Thanks for your help in this area!

Hello Parents,

Looking forward to another week in kindergarten. Here’s what’s going on:

In Math we are working on numbers 1 &2 this week. We’re going to be creating a number line with natural elements, we will begin that this week.

In Language Arts we will continue with our Alphabet review/introduction. We will be reading “Do You See Colours” which is a great book to introduce colours and colour mixing. We will be having a lot of activities based around this book including colour mixing and writing our own Do You See Colours book.

We will have our pictures on Monday and the Terry Fox run/walk on Wednesday.

Monday is Day 1 of our cycle, library books are due back on Wednesday- Day 3.

Have a great week!

September 8-12 September 7, 2014

Our first full week of Kindergarten! Such excitement, much wow (as my daughter in university would say). I don’t know if your children were tired on Friday, but I can say with no loss of pride that I was in bed and asleep by 8:00! Hopefully we are all caught up on our sleep because we’re going to need it!

Here’s what’s in store for our class this week:
-Our Big Book of the week will be “Corduroy”.

-We will be reviewing basic alphabet knowledge for this month. Before school started I took down my ABC lines and my Number lines. We are, as a class, going to create our own this year. I firmly believe that if the class hasn’t participated in making something it becomes irrelevant to them. So everything that goes on our wall will be created either individually or as a class.

-We will be making a nature number line for numbers 1-5. I am planning on going on a nature walk around the school to gather items we can use for this.

-For the month of September we will be all about learning the routines of the school and of the class as well as emphasizing what it means to work together and be good friends, that is one reason I chose Corduroy for our class book this week.

Meet the Teacher night is September 11 at 6:30 pm. Please come and meet the other parents in the class as well as learn a little more about your child’s day.

Here’s to a great week!
