Hello Parents,

Here’s what happening this week:

As some of you may have heard, we are learning about the rhinoceros. This came about because there was a picture of one in a book and many of us didn’t know what it was! So, now we will. Also, we had an “interesting” discussion about how babies are born, etc. Just in case anyone came home talking about it. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Rhinoceros fun facts:

-They live alone, but a baby will live with the mother up to a year

-The white rhino has square lips (!) which helps it to eat grass. Other rhinos eat leaves and foliage (new word!).

Here’s what else we’re doing:

Sight words: you, on

Still working on our vowels

We’ll be using the month of April to finish up our number sense unit

I also want to take a minute to stress how important it is that you read with your child when they bring their guided reading books home from Tues.-Thurs. It takes less than 5 minutes a night, but the benefits I see in the classroom are tremendous! When they are not doing their reading at home it truly does effect their reading work in the class. Thanks!

Our Spring Concert is May 5. There will be more information coming home this week. I hope you plan to attend as the children have been working so hard and it looks to be a very cute performance!

Something to take note of: For our end of the year field trip, we will be travelling to King’s Castle. More information will go home as we get closer to the actual date.

Here’s to a great week!

Saw this fella outside my window this morning. Ignore the snow, focus on the robin, and repeat after me, “Spring is here, spring is here, spring is here…” There, now I know i feel a lot better!

We have a fun week planned for KD and I’m looking forward to it all.

We will be talking about vowels, and matching upper and lower case letters. We will continue to work on the sight words we’ve covered so far, especially emphasizing my, come, here. Next week we will be adding more. We also will continue to work on stretching out our words and writing down all of the sounds we hear.

In math we will look at the number 9.

We will also continue with our 5 Senses.

On April 14, Jacob MacNeill, the Easter Seals Ambassador will be visiting Glen Stewart Primary. I am very excited for this as I taught Jacob when he was in Kindergarten at Head Start Early Learning Centre! In preparation for this, we, at Glen Stewart are working on ways to raise money for this program. The English Kindergarten Team has decided to have some fun days this week to help with the fund raising. We are asking for a donation of a Loonie a day, or whatever you and your family wish to give. Here are the special days:

Tuesday- Backwards Day (dress up backwards)

Wednesday- Hawaii/Beach Day (dress up for the tropics)

Thursday- Wear your favourite costume day! (come dressed in your favourite dress-up/costume)

Friday- Pajama Day

Ice-Cream Sale – Easter Seals Fundraiser – We will be selling fudgesicles at lunchtime on Wednesday for $1.

We are all looking forward to this week, and if you can donate, please consider!

May 5th is our Kindergarten Spring Concert! We have been practicing hard every day:

Our theme is Spring planting/gardening. The songs are fun and the kids are getting excited. There will be more information about this as we get closer to the date.

Have a great week, and as always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate!
