Wow! The last week of May is here. But we still have lots to do before the end of June!

This week we’ve begun looking at 3D shapes. This is always a fun unit to do, we’ll have a good time discovering all of the shapes we see around us.

We continue to work on reading and writing. It’s so important that we all put our best effort in every day. The more effort we put into our reading and writing, the more improvement we will see.

We are also continuing our discovery of dirt and soil. We’ve had a great time investigating using (most) of our 5 senses. Can you guess which sense we will NOT use?

We have library on Wednesday. Please make sure your child returns their library book so that they will be able to check out another.

Here’s a few notes to remember:

May 29 (Friday) there is no school for Kindergarten only. This is the day the new students for next year will come for a visit. Remember, it is only Kindergarten that does not have school, so if you have an older child they DO have school that day.

June 5 is the Spring Fling. This is always a fun time! We are still collecting items for the Kindergarten “Pamper Yourself” basket.

Have a great week!

Can you believe what a great weekend we had? So lovely. I know I had more than my fill of lobster, and it was worth it!

Here’s what’s up for this week:

We are looking at lower case letters.

We are reviewing all of our sight words. If you would like a complete list of our words, send me an e-mail at and I will reply.

We will begin thinking about dirt and its properties. Should be fun. Be looking for a baggie to go home that they will fill with dirt from your house!

If you have any items for our “Pamper Yourself” basket, please send them in.

I will not be sending home Guided Reading Books any longer. With the weather getting warmer, and the evenings staying lighter longer, it should be nice for you to get outside and play.

Here are some great articles along the lines of play. Check them out!

And lastly, I know many of us are getting new shoes as we have outgrown our old ones. Please, please, please, if you child cannot independently tie their own shoes, please do not send them in with tie shoes! Independence is so important for our learning at this age, and having to ask the teacher to help them get ready to go outside takes away from that. If they have tie shoes, one alternative is to buy the shoe lace elastics. They are curly, go into a shoe like a shoe lace, but they can slide the shoes on and off. I know, in the past, I’ve bought them at Wal Mart for my own kids. Thanks.

Have a great week!

Hi Parents,

I just wanted to pass on a few reminders for the Spring Concert tomorrow.

Please have your child wear a white t-shirt and blue jeans/overalls.

Our class is located in the centre back of the stage if you’d like to try to plan your seats accordingly.

The afternoon concert is at 1:15.

For the evening concert, I will be in the classroom from 5:30 on, so you can drop your child off anytime after that!

Looking forward to the show!

It’s finally May! I don’t know about you, but May has been a long time coming. Here’s hoping the weather warms up and the sun shines brighter!

Here’s what’s up for this week:
Our Spring Concert is Tuesday at 1:10 and 6:00. Please remember to have your child wear a white t-shirt and blue jeans or overalls. The theme is planting and growing a garden/farm. I can tell you that you will LOVE it! The kids have been working so hard and they sound so good. I know we are all looking forward to it!

Because of the concert on Tuesday, Monday will be spent both in class doing our regular work as well as practicing for Tuesday.

We will be concluding our study of numbers 1-10 this week. We also read a really great book during Shared Reading time called “One Duck Stuck”. If you were to go to the provincial library website and went on their Tumble books link, you could find the book in there. It’s a great story that emphasizes rhyme, number, and working together, among other things. We’ll be doing activities around this book this week as well.

We have finished up our study on Rhinoceros and here are some pictures:

IMG_1390 IMG_1392 IMG_1391┬áThe biggest take-a-way I think we all learned was that the white rhino eats grass while other rhino’s eat leaves. But we learned how much they weigh, and how tall they are. We used our measuring skills to see how tall we are compared to the rhinoceros and how much we weigh compared to the rhinoceros. We learned that all of the students in our class put together weigh as much as a small rhinoceros! We had a lot of fun with this, I am on the lookout to see what else we may want to learn about! I’ll let you know.

More information you need to know:

-For the Spring Fling this year, the Kindergarten classes are creating a “Pamper Yourself” basket. We will be asking for donations. A note will go home about this.

-Monday is Glen Stewart’s 40th Birthday! We will be celebrating by singing Happy Birthday and by having popsicles at lunchtime!

-Student fees for next year are due! If you have not done so already, please send in $30 for the grade 1 supplies. Thanks!

Have a great week!
