Hello Parents, the week is in full swing, so here are some notes for you:

In literacy we’re reading Dan the Flying Man. We’re ¬†also focusing on pointing to words and reading the words on the page.

We continue to build on our writing skills, and in math we are working on letter formation.

A note goes home today regarding tickets for the Spring Concert. It is important for you to get those returned as soon as possible. The tickets are free, but we need to know the numbers in order to have enough space.

Also, if you have a child’s size apron at home, we could use that for the concert.

Guided Reading books go home today. Remember, there is no school on Friday as it is a PD day. Next Friday, May 6 is also our PEITF annual meeting, so there will be no school that day either.

As always, if you have any questions, please let me know!

Our Week In Pictures April 23, 2016

The picture on the left is what the branch looked like a week ago when we brought it inside. You can see by the picture on the right how the buds are beginning to bloom.

This week we created in a variety of ways. In the sand box we made a volcano AND the Grand Canyon. We created new vehicles with the Lego. We painted, we drew, we wrote, we made tunnels with the blocks.

We went on a nature walk and used our five sense to discover the world around us. We felt the breeze on our faces, the rocks under our feet, the pinecones we gathered from the ground. We smelled the spring dirt smell in the air. We saw birds and water, grass and garbage. We heard animals playing in the trees, birds singing, cars driving by. And some of us tasted the bridge…

We’ve all had a great week. And we look forward to next week!

Here is the link to a fun Sesame Street video we all really enjoy:

Working out math concepts on the white board. Practicing Part/Part/Whole and learning that numbers can be broken into two parts.

Bringing the outdoors indoors. Watching and observing a branch with buds on it. How long will it take to bloom?

Constructing in the block and the sand area teaches us about gravity, physics, shapes, and symmetry.

Reminder: It’s a short week this week as there is a PD day on Friday.

On Thursday there will be a school wide Pajama Day. Bring in a Loonie for the Easter Seals!

This week we will be working on “juicy” words (descriptive words) for writing, as well as expanding on our ideas.

We will be reading the book 911 Quack- which is a true story of a mother duck and her 8 ducklings.

As a reminder- Guided Reading books MUST be returned by THURSDAY. We have had many students who are not returning them on time. If this continues to happen, I will not be sending the books home. It’s not a decision I make lightly, because I know how important it is to have that exposure both at home and at school. But we have limited amounts of these books and books that are not returned on time, or are lost, make a big impact on our guided reading lessons.

In Math we will be doing problem solving tasks in relation to our outcome: breaking a number into to groups and naming the two groups.

Looking forward to another great week! As always, if you have any questions, please ask!
