Hello Parents! Welcome to Kindergarten, and welcome to the next phase of you and your child’s life! It’s an exciting time for everyone, and sometimes excitement brings about anxiety, so this is your daily reminder to stop, take a few breaths, and enjoy!
We have had a great week getting to know each other and our daily routines. We have begun our “general alphabet review”- which means we are creating our own alphabet line, adding one letter a day, learning about letter sounds, and the difference between a letter a number and a word. Once we finish the alphabet line, (by the middle of October), we will begin to spend more time on each individual letter.
We will also be working on our own number line beginning this week. We will focus on numbers 1-5 from now until November, particularly the concepts of more and fewer/less, sorting, counting, and subitizing (recognizing an amount at a glance).
For this week coming, we will go over the letters E-I, and will be learning about the difference between a letter, a number, and a word. In math we will create that number line and begin to talk about more and fewer/less.
I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday at Meet the Staff night. It’s 6:30 for Kindergarten and Grade 1; 7:15 for Grades 2 and 3. I have a lot of information to share with you that will be unique to our class, so I hope to see you all out!
If you haven’t subscribed to this blog, please do so! If you want to know what is happening in your child’s day, this will be the number one spot to go to! Also, please fill out and return any forms that may still be outstanding.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! E-mail is the easiest way to get ahold of me, and if you would like to speak with me, you can either e-mail and let me know, or phone the school between 2:40 and 3:30.
Have a great week! See you Thursday!
Here are some fun video’s we’ll be enjoying this year:
