It’s hard to believe March is almost upon us! Time will really start to fly now! With March comes report cards and Parent/Teacher interviews. I am sending home the slips today. I used the same times as the fall interviews, so if that time won’t work for you, please let me know ASAP and we can figure out a time that works best.

This week:

Math: We will be looking into separating numbers into two groups (part/part/whole) and representing our thinking on paper.

Literacy: A new book: The Jacket I Wear in the Snow

Sight words: love, you

We have finished our letters, but will continue to review them, particularly our letter formation. Remember: Where do we start our letters? At the Top!

For Guided Reading I will be doing a quick assessment of our progress on Monday and Tuesday. If time allows, I will be sending books home on Tuesday. If not, that practice will resume next week.

In Writing, we are thinking about the structure of a book- the cover, the beginning, middle, and end, etc.

I am sending home our printing journals!

Have a great week!

Mrs. Marshall

Due to Pajama Day this Friday, make sure your child is dressed for sledding in the morning. We will be going out around 9:30 and will stay outside until after first recess (10:45).

Pajama day is this Friday. I will be in touch about sledding.

As for our Open House, that is on hold for now. I would still like to have parents in, but perhaps sometime later on in the year when the weather is more predictable.

I think that’s actually all! Thanks to Paula for the message about PJ day!

Hello Parents!

What a week last week, here’s hoping this is not a foreshadowing of the rest of our winter! I am looking forward to getting back together and getting back on track, I would imagine we all feel that way right about now!

This week we will finish up our letters: A and J. I will do a quick review of the sight words covered so far, I have a feeling we are all pretty strong with these so I will be adding new words later on this week. I don’t want to commit to what ones just yet though.

We will begin a book series about a penguin named Tacky. It’s a great series of books about a penguin who isn’t like all of the other penguins.

In Math we will continue talking about how to break a number into two parts (2 and 4 equal 6, 3 and 3 equal 6, etc). We call this “part-part-whole”, and it’s the foundation for understanding addition and subtraction.

I still have plans to go sledding. If the weather and the snow holds, I hope to go sledding on Friday, so let’s keep our fingers crossed!

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hey Parents,

As was predicted, we’re getting hit with yet another snow storm. Wanting activities for your child to do on these days? How about giving them some paper and pencils/markers/crayons to do some writing? Let them sound the words out that they don’t know- we call that “Kindergarten Writing”. There are also those sight word games I sent home last week (or was it the week before? Time flies!).

In regards to the Open House/Tea: That will go ahead on Friday.

Friday is also Pajama Day for the whole school. Send in a loonie for Easter Seals! This years Easter Seals ambassador is a friend of mine, so I am so excited for him!

Looking into the weather for next week, I am thinking it would be nice to go sledding either Monday or Tuesday. I will let you know which day over the weekend.

Enjoy the downtime, and hope to see you all tomorrow afternoon!

Hey Parents,

What a week! Looks like we’ll be back in action tomorrow so that means our Valentine’s Party is too! Nothing big, just exchanging our Valentines and having a couple of treats. I look forward to seeing everyone!

Also, if the snow sticks around into next week, I’m planning on having a sledding day. We have crazy carpets here, and a great hill out behind Stratford Elementary. I will give out more information in the next weekly update. Have a great night!

Mrs. Marshall

PS, Weather on Thursday is still looking iffy. If there is no school we will definitely be rescheduling our Open House. Keep a look out here for more information

OK, I write this knowing full well that it looks like we’ve got some weather on the way, but we still have work to do!

I can’t believe we are almost finished with our letters. Just I and J left. Depending on the weather, we’ll get to at least one of these, hopefully both. Everyone is doing so well with both their reading and their writing, and their letter knowledge is one reason! So proud of the effort everyone is putting into their work.

Last week we read a book about a tiger family, “Sing a Song”. It lead to some research on tigers and endangered species. This week we will begin reading about a penguin named Tacky. I wonder what kind of discussions this will lead to?

We are creating a new number line in math:

As well as reviewing patterns.

I am assuming you all received invitations to our Open House on Thursday. Included was a class list for Valentines Day. If the weather turns out to not be cooperative, both the Valentines Party (scheduled for Tuesday afternoon) and our Open House (Thursday afternoon) will be rescheduled. Further information if needed!

As always, if you have any questions, please let me know!
