April 17-21 April 18, 2017

I hope everyone had a restful long weekend. It’s hard to believe there is only a week and a half left of April. The time is starting to really fly by! As I’ve been observing the class in the past few weeks I have been so impressed with the way the are starting to look out for each other, how they are beginning to work together, and to problem solve most situations. This is the time of year to look around and think, “Yes. They’ve got it!” And “got it” they have.

Here’s what we’re working on this week:
Our book is called Rosie’s Walk, about a hen who goes for a walk around the barnyard followed by a pesky fox. This is also the book we are doing our Spring Concert around, so we have had extra fun with this story.

We are working on silent reading during Guided Reading time. The class really enjoyed book bag.s today- each group is given 4 books in their book bag to read over. Some are ones we’ve read already, and some are new, but very easily read. This will give us great practice for putting our reading strategies all together.

For our sight words we will be finishing up he, she, me, and will add with. That should cover all of our sight words for the year. From here on out, we will continue to review letters, letter sounds, and sight words.

In writing we are finishing up some books, and beginning new ones. We are emphasizing what a story is, and how to write with a “bold beginning”, a “magnificent middle” and an “excellent ending”.

In math we will finish up number sense and continue to review patterns.

We continue to encourage being “every day heroes” and this week we will talk about the Earth and how we can take care of it.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Marshall

Hello Parents,

We have a short week this week, but lots to do. If you haven’t heard, we’ve been reading stories about a favourite Kindergarten character, Mrs. Wishy-Washy. This week we will finish up her stories with “The Hole in the Tub”.

We will be doing some reading, sight word, and letter assessments this week. I will no longer be sending guided reading books home. As the nights get longer, it becomes more of a chore to do our reading. Also, I have been having a hard time getting the books back on time, as well as finding that only 1/2 of our class is doing their nightly reading. We will be still be working on our reading, but we will use class time for this. Thank you for understanding.

We will add the sight words he, she, me to our list. We will also continue working on beginning and ending sounds as well as stretching out our words and writing the sounds down that we hear.

In math we will re-visit patterns for the rest of the month.

Remember there is no school on Friday due to Good Friday, and no school on Monday due to Easter Monday. Enjoy the extra long weekend with your family!

Have a great week,

Mrs. Marshall

We have been emphasizing the need to be “everyday heroes” in class. I think it’s been really beneficial for us to realize all it takes is to remember to be kind and to help out others. This has been going extremely well, and I am so proud of the thoughtfulness that is being demonstrated each day.

Here are some links to some great videos too:
