I hope everyone had a restful long weekend. It’s hard to believe there is only a week and a half left of April. The time is starting to really fly by! As I’ve been observing the class in the past few weeks I have been so impressed with the way the are starting to look out for each other, how they are beginning to work together, and to problem solve most situations. This is the time of year to look around and think, “Yes. They’ve got it!” And “got it” they have.
Here’s what we’re working on this week:
Our book is called Rosie’s Walk, about a hen who goes for a walk around the barnyard followed by a pesky fox. This is also the book we are doing our Spring Concert around, so we have had extra fun with this story.
We are working on silent reading during Guided Reading time. The class really enjoyed book bag.s today- each group is given 4 books in their book bag to read over. Some are ones we’ve read already, and some are new, but very easily read. This will give us great practice for putting our reading strategies all together.
For our sight words we will be finishing up he, she, me, and will add with. That should cover all of our sight words for the year. From here on out, we will continue to review letters, letter sounds, and sight words.
In writing we are finishing up some books, and beginning new ones. We are emphasizing what a story is, and how to write with a “bold beginning”, a “magnificent middle” and an “excellent ending”.
In math we will finish up number sense and continue to review patterns.
We continue to encourage being “every day heroes” and this week we will talk about the Earth and how we can take care of it.
Have a great week!
